Activate your Sacral Chakra
Your chakras, or energy centers, govern the flow of energy within your body. There are seven main chakras in the body, which begin at the base of the spine and move upward to the tops of your head.
These energy centers, which you cannot see with the naked eye, also correspond to the body's major organs. When you feel out of sorts in any of the seven main chakras areas, you will likely be able to correlate it back to an energy imbalance.
The sacral chakra, or Svadhishthana, is located just above your pubic bone and below the navel. Once your root chakra or foundation is healthy (more on your root chakra here), creativity can blossom in the sacral chakra. The sacral chakra governs and influences your creativity, self-expression, sensuality, emotions, and connection. When your sacral chakra is in balance, you radiate warmth, generosity, and curiosity. When out of balance, feelings of emotional instability, co-dependency, lack of definite boundaries, and overindulgences can result.
The mantra for the root chakra is "I feel." Are you taking care of yourself first, above everything else? When there is little focus on self-care when there is a tendency to take care of everyone and everything else first and ourselves last, the more out of balance your sacral chakra is likely to be.
The physicality of your sacral chakra out of balance looks like lower back discomfort, stomach troubles, reproductive issues, and addictive/compulsive behaviors.
Crystals to Support the Sacral Chakra
The color associated with the sacral chakra is orange. If you would like to utilize crystals to provide support, reach for aventurine, amber, carnelian, or orange calcite.
Affirmations of Support
Affirmations are positive statements that can be said quietly or out loud to challenge or work to overcome self-limiting beliefs or struggle. Here are a few examples of affirmations for the sacral chakra:
-I seek opportunities for spiritual and personal growth.
-I allow my creativity to flow through me freely.
-I value and respect my body exactly as it is today.
Essential Oils for the Sacral Chakra
Sweet orange: The sweet and harmonious scent of sweet orange essential oil promotes innocence and truth. When placed in a diffuser or inhaler, sweet orange encourages the awakening of your muse, bringing about creativity, thoughts of abundance, happiness, and pleasure.
Patchouli: Representing peace for generations of music lovers, patchouli essential oil cultivates abundance, contentment, acceptance, and sensuality. Patchouli is akin to a fine wine; it only gets better with age.
Ylang Ylang: The heady, exotic aroma of ylang ylang has been touted as a powerful aphrodisiac, helping to open and stimulate the sacral chakra (Tarumi 2020). When ylang ylang is artfully blended with patchouli and sweet orange, you can experience enhanced creative power, healthy self-expression, and enthusiasm for self and life.
If you feel blocked in the area of creativity, are not feeling connected to your emotions, or on the flip side feel everything intensely and are dealing with situational anxiety, try and incorporate a few of these practices into your life.
-Find ways to embrace your inner child, letting creativity flow. Paint with your fingers, spend more time around little children, allow more time for genuine play. Even daydreaming opens the door to more creativity (Inc., 2018).
-If you have not utilized a journal before, I invite you to try it and see if you like it. I write all of my feelings in a journal but have a particular practice of writing things I am grateful for, beautiful memories I hold dear, and incredible detail of my thoughts when creative inspiration hits. The action of being grateful brings immense feelings of contentment and abundance. Give it a try!
-If you own a bathtub, I recommend utilizing aromatic oils in the tub. Mix five drops of sweet orange and two drops of patchouli in a little bit of fragrance-free bubble bath or shampoo and treat yourself today.
These tools and practices will help keep your sacral chakra in balance, leaving you feeling confident and calm throughout your day.
