Guide to unlock the power of your Third Eye Chakra
Your chakras, or energy centers, govern the flow of energy within your body. There are seven main chakras in the body, which begin at the base of the spine and move upward to the tops of your head.
These energy centers, which you cannot see with the naked eye, also correspond to the body's major organs. When you feel out of sorts in any of the seven main chakras areas, you will likely be able to correlate it back to an energy imbalance.
The third eye chakra, or Ajna (perceiving), is located on the forehead in between the eyebrows. When the third eye chakra is in balance, intuition and expression are healthy and robust. When your third eye chakra is open, your imagination is full, your dreams vivid, and you may even experience clairvoyance at one time or another. When out of balance, however, concentration and focus become difficult, you might struggle with not being open to other opinions, nightmares become more frequent, and you may find yourself repeating the same patterns and mistakes.
The mantra for the third eye chakra is "I see" and is your connection to God, the Divine, or the Universe. Do you grapple with bad memories? Do you often struggle with goal setting or completion of the ones you set for yourself? Do you feel stuck in the day-to-day daily grind? If so, your third eye chakra may need your focus and attention. We all deserve having the abilities that the third chakra provides.
The physicality of your third eye chakra out of balance can manifest as headaches, anxiety, depression, insomnia, nightmares/night terrors, and hormonal imbalances. Your third eye chakra has an intrinsic connection to your vagus nerve and your nervous system. If your nervous system is overactive, give extra attention to supporting and opening your third eye chakra.
Crystals to Support the Third Eye Chakra
The color associated with the third eye chakra is indigo/violet. If you would like to utilize crystals to provide support, reach for sodalite, lapis lazuli, labradorite, fluorite, or azurite.
Affirmations of Support
Affirmations are positive statements that can be said quietly or out loud to challenge or work to overcome self-limiting beliefs or struggle. Here are a few examples of affirmations for the third eye chakra:
-I am connected to the wisdom of the Universe.
-I see connections and the deeper truth.
-I am connected to my true path and purpose.
-I trust in the divine course of my life.
-My greatest joy and highest good is unfolding in divine timing.
Essential Oils for the Third Eye Chakra
Cedarwood Atlas: The woodsy aroma of Cedarwood Atlas draws on earth energy and is a very introspective oil. Be sure to include cedarwood in your mindful meditation blend to ground you and support strength of intuition and increased awareness.
Clary Sage: This fruity-floral essential oil has an affinity for the reproductive system and benefits the homeostasis of hormones. Clary sage is high in the constituents linalyl acetate and linalool, providing great calm and centeredness, and is almost euphoric in nature. Reach for clary sage when your nervous system needs a reset.
Sweet Orange: The beauty of sweet orange essential oil is that it blends with nearly all other essential oils. The fruity, fresh aroma is uplifting yet incredibly calming. There are multiple studies to back the use of sweet orange essential oil to soothe situational anxiety. One of which was a study that was published in 2000by the Journal of Physiology & Behavior showing that the inhalation of sweet orange significantly reduced anxiety before dental procedures (Lehrner, 2000).
If you are dealing with a broken heart or suffer from a lack of trust and receiving love, try and incorporate a few of these practices into your life.
-Meditation and mindfulness practices are the single best thing for your mental and emotional health. We can retrain our brains to be peaceful and calm during times of chaos. We rarely take moments of silence and contemplation, which will activate and strengthen our third eye chakra.
-Outside stimuli such as social media and news outlets are incredibly detrimental to our creativity and our nervous system as a whole. Unplug during critical times such as upon awakening or before bed in the evening. I also recommend adding an unplugged day as often as you can manage to reconnect to you.
-The more out of balance we are, the less likely we are to notice our intuition when it is speaking to us. Take notice when you hear or feel it. Write down the details. Were you spot on? We often are but second guess those little nudges. The more you acknowledge and trust it, the more you cultivate it, the stronger and louder your intuition will be.
These tools and practices will help keep your third eye chakra open and able to listen and tune in, leaving you feeling calmer and all-knowing.
